For everyone who's got polished wheels ... how much work is it to keep them clean? I bought a brand new set of AFS polished ZR1 wheels and they're sitting in my living room. I've been polishing and waxing them (in my living room ) and now I'm stressed out about how much work they're going to be after I have them mounted and on the car. I'm considering boxing them back up and selling them while they're still new and buying some chrome rims instead. Someone said that polished wheels take several hours a week to keep clean? Is there some truth to this or am I worried over nothing?
Polished wheels take a little time to keep clean, but there are ways to keep them cleaner for a while. Once they are polished up real nice, put a coat of wax/sealer on them. That should hold you for a month or so. Now, let's talk about chrome, they are prone to rust if you let them go too long. Once chrome starts to rust, not much you can do, but the polished wheels can be brought back. If you really don't like polishing your wheels, again, clean them up and have them clear coated. I don't mind polishing my wheels as you can get them to shine as well as chrome. If you have to have max "bling" go with chrome, but if you like a good conservative shine, go polished.
All of this is out the window if it's a daily driver. In this case you'll want painted wheels.

OOPS! Reading this post, for a minute there I thought I was in C4 general discussion section!
Strick pretty much summed it up. I've had both. To keep polished looking the way I wanted them to, I had to get after them about once a month. Bare aluminum oxidizes, and it takes maintenance. Chrome won't. However, chrome can chip and peel over time or with abuse/lack of care. It was a no brainer to go chrome for me due to low mileage and driving conditions. My buddy bought polished the same time I bought chrome - mine look better because he doesn't have the time to keep his looking good.
Get rid of them while you can, chrome is the only way to go, best shine new and they stay that way, polished will look faded over time if you dont polish them every weekend.
