I believe my 700R4(4L60) transmission in my 92 is on the way out. Overdrive has completely stopped working. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd work fine, but the car doesn't want to shift into overdrive. Is there anything that can be done without a complete transmission overhaul or is it inevitable? How much should I expect to spend for a rebuild?
I've been chasing tranny problems in mine too....I suggest you do some research into the TCC solenoid, as that may be your culprit. There's one post on this forum regarding this solenoid problem. Try searching for "converter lockup switch". You don't need rebuild to do this change, if it turns out to be your problem. The oil pan needs to come off and its on the valve body.

92 does not have a 4l60E it has a 4l60 /700r4
I just got my full price on my rebuild-- $1617.02 not with a converter.

You still want to check the wiriing as well. If you are having problems with just fourth I'd expect your reverese to be broken as well. If you can drop the pan, make sure the wiring is good to go first before pursuing a rebuild.
Tranny's are not like engines, any excuse to tear into it will NOT result in a 100 HP boost.
