I will need to replace the front brakes on my 93 in the early spring. I have been checking prices at differant places and have found them at Advance Auto for 21.88 for both front brakes. Why are the ones in the catalogs so much more and will the cheap ones work ok for a daily driver that is not pushed hard into corners. I also have been given prices up to 150.00 for a set.

Hi
Brake pads are worth what you pay for them! Granted some stores may charge higher than others for equal quality, but they won't be that much higher!
The catalogs such as Mid and Eck are probably around 10% higher than they are worth.
But $ 21 at Advance, I would stay away from. Frankly I have found that Advance's cheap prices are still overmatched to the cheapness of their quality! Half the people in line at my local store, or at least that's what it sometimes appears like, are returning something that didn't work, fit or last.
Check out places like The last Detail or Superior Performance for quality and good price
You won't be happy with the money you saved as you are sliding under the back of an 18 wheeler
If you believe that better pads cost more that you might want to go with a slightly higher quality when it comes to your brakes and stopping. The difference is in the different compounds that are used. Some compounds are hard and some are soft. Some work with heat and some dont work well at all when hot. Pick your poison. I use AutoZone PFCs Z rated. Just my .02.
