Most common available size is 1 3/4 but some companies offer 1 5/8. I have hear endless debate on the forum about this subject and I have concluded that in most cases it doesn't matter . For darn sure ,either size is far superior to the restricted mess that comes stock.

Mid to upper rpm power is increased by either. The reports are that the larger tubes, don't cost low end torque below what the stock exhaust provides. However, the smaller tubes will BOOST the low end with no sacrifice on the top. Do a search. There have been pages written on this subject.

I wonder if anyone ever read the warnings that come with 1 7/8" + headers that say 'for high horsepower engines only due to extreme loss of torque'

And, if memory serves, these are only offered for EXTREMELY high HP applications, in the 7 or 800 HP range. Please, for the love of God, let's not throw yet ANOTHER header size into these discussions!

Funny, I've seen an LS1 go with 1 7/8 headers and not give up any low end................

"Give up" can have more than one interpretation. Is not being less than stock, not giving up? Or is not getting all you could get, giving up?

Do the 1 7/8ths" provide any advantage over the popular, 1 3/4", or less so, 1 5/8ths"?

In the particular case I was referring to, GIVE up would refer to losing torque at ANY point. The 1 7/8th headers made more power from 2000 RPM's and up at EVERY POINT on the dyno graph, to the tune of abotu 10 pounds of torque.

Of that I have no doubt, monster heads and cam I'm sure. The flow numbers on an LS1 are just disgusting.

You are correct i am going to run a set of 17/8 that step up to 2.00 inch that all run in to a very nice 3 in merge collector there where built by Exotic Muscle. They fit the car perfect if anyone would like pics i have them but no way to host them. The car is almost complete and the motor will make somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,000 to 1,100 hp at the flywheel or more if i turn up the boost.
