Default Horsepower opinions

I have the following mods done to my 93 6-speed with 23K miles. I have had it dynoed several times with reporgrammed chips, but the results have not been good. My mechanic had just purchased the equipment needed to burn me a chip on site at the dyno. Problem is, the weather is getting crappy out and I have already put my sweet bitch away for winter. What kind of horsepower figures can I expect from these mods....
-ported and polished LT-1 heads
-Comp Cams 503 cam- 224*/ 230* at .05"
-1.6RR
-LS-1 springs
-new Opti
-Coyle true double roller timing chain
-Meziere electric water pump
-new AC Delco plugs, taylor wires
-Vortex Air Rammer intake with airfoil
-Borla mufflers

I don't have full length headers due to well...I'm getting married and my fiance doesn't see that as a priority
Anyway, I figure about 360 horsepower at the wheels with this setup on a proper tune...any opinions?

I just saw a post on CammaroZ28 forum from a guy with almost that exact set up he made 311 rwhp and 333 rwtq. and I thought that was a little low but he also did not have LT's so it may be the bottle neck. Here is the link you may find it interesting,

i have almost the exact same setup only i didnt do the cloyes double roller.

my cam is a 224/230 .544 w/ 1.6rr

i havent changed my gears out yet and i have a 2.59 so i havent seen the benefits yet.

i figure something like this at flywheel

300 stock
30 heads
50 ish from large cam
15 from 1.6rr
10 from mezierre

somewhere around 400 at crank is my guess. i called comp and talked to them they said with a proper tune maybe even closser to 150 from these mods.

That cam is somewhat larger than the LT4 Hot Cam, so you might expect it to make more power. The problem is though that through stock exhaust you're gonna choke it to death.

Depending on your cylinder heads, I give it 350 at the wheels tops in current configuration. With long tubes and free flowing exhaust 400 shouldn't be a problem.

I hear ya.
The dyno tech and my engine builder both said it should be about 350 at the wheels...properly tuned. I wanted to see if I could get an unbiased opinion on that. I am eventually going to run long tubes, but getting a good set with installation is pricey. I just got my vette in August, and have dumped mucho $$ into it. Long tubes and a proper tune will get me up with the big dogs......time and money....money and time....

Thanks Nathan, you know your shizit.

Since you live about 2 minutes away from me (I'm in Willoughby Hills), a couple of questions for you.

1) Who's doing your work?
2) Are you dynoing at Dynotech in Eastlake? I was always under the impression that Steve had LT1Edit onsite. I wasn't sure if you bought the sofware for yourself, but I always thought he had it available for onsite tuning.

Good luck. Sounds like a very nice car.

Yeah, I had it dynod twice be Steve at dyno tech. I forgot what he had, but he didn't have everything needed to tune my car. The work was done by Rottie at Powerhouse Performance in Willoughby. Rottie just got all the gear needed to tune my car. He is booked up for this weekend, so I think I will just wait till spring to have it tuned. He said that he was going to spring for the dyno time and tune for me no charge. I have his number if you are interested in getting work done by him. He has a 96 CE LT-4 putting down 377 at the wheels.

We need to go out cruising sometime when the weather breaks in the spring....

Ron, I just checked out your sig....nice ride...nice power...
That's were I want to be, but I'd be happy with high 300's at the wheels.

Thanks for the compliments. It's been a long time in the works!

I have heard of Rottie. I'd be interested in checking his place out at some point. I know Steve and am good friends with Shane over at Dynotech. They're good guys.

Definitely in on the cruise in the spring. I hate this fricking weather here and this is only the beginning.

Cheers!

I did 365-370rwhp on almost identical setup on my LT4....A/F was not optimized so it should still be a little higher...peak hp around 6400-6500 rpm....

This is with factory exhaust manifold......EM longtubes are going on over the winter.....should pick up ?????hp

I think the CompCams 503 is a good choice, it is what I went with....

BTW Rottie did my work......I am very pleased with his work...

Nate.. I'm quoting you only because I respect your opinion..IMO you know your SH#! .. so here goes... Yes I know I'm probably as dense as concrete.. but why are so many Vette owners so intrigued or obsessed with Dyno #s Speaking for myself.. I honestly dont know & "Dont Care" how much HP or Torque my car makes as long as my ET is good..

If I make a change to my car it would be to make it run better On The Street or Track I could care less about how much HP its making..

I know Ralph built his motor from the bare block up (I helped by handing him tools) He has run 11.0x through STOCK LT1 mufflers & never had that motor or car near a dyno.. the same goes for Chris (Insanity) with his 93 LT1 he too is a low 11 sec 120+ mph car & had not seen a dyno..

Honest to God, I'm NOT throwing flames at anyone!! but do people dyno just for bragging rights ? I can & do understand the needs for putting an engine or car on a dyno.. i.e. a race motor, or a company that builds parts (heads, cams, etc.) but why the every day driver?

Ralph, Chris, myself & many others race almost every week during the summer, & had never had our cars on a dyno..

Am I missing something

I've heard the saying you cant see the forest because the trees are in the way....Is that my case here...

Look at my ET & MPH.. I Honestly have No Idea How Much HP my car is making...

Thanks to you or anyone who can enlighten me on this subject..

Red96Coupe...running your car on the dyno in my opinion is VERY important after any major engine mods are done. After I got the work done to my car, I thought it was fast, but not retarded fast. A few of our buddies went to dyno our cars together, just to see what kind of power our cars were making. Guess what? It's down by at least 35 rear wheel horsepower. The timing was all out of whack after 5500 rpm. I would not know this if I didn't dyno the car. The chip was sent away to be reprogrammed with my mods, but it was still not done right....twice. I feel if I am paying $$ for mods, I expect to get the most out of them.
And the second reason to dyno your car...it makes a nice conversation piece!
