One headlight on my 95 coupe hangs about half way when I turn on the headlights. It will always close properly and sometimes even opens normally. Is this a bushing problem or gear? Also, sometimes when I turn off the ignition I hear the headlight motor continuing to run briefly.
What's the problem?
Thanks everyone. I'm not too much of a do-it-yourselfer but would like to know what I'm talking about when I take it to the shop.
Hey Jerry! Sounds like the bushings to me. Mine would occasionally do that and I would cycle the lights on/off until it came around all the way. After I did the bushings, no more problems! And after the bushings the motors stop as soon as the lights are around and stopped!
You can order the bushings online from MAM (Mid-America Motorworks or Eckler's Corvette Parts. You can also purchase nylon spacers from Lowe's or Home Depot Hardware stores and save even more money.
DO NOT take it to the dealer for this repair. They will charge you (at a minumum $300 a pop) to replace the entire headlight motor when all you need is a set of .69 cent bushings. It's robbery, I tell ya!
Nylon spacers are at Home Depot. Just ask for item number 595609.
They measure 27/64" x 29/64" (2 for 69 cents.) You will need 3 packs of 2 each for a total of six bushings to repair both headlights.
Use the installation instructions I sent you and holler back if you run into any problems. I fixed mine this past summer and they're still working like new money!
