Default Suggestions on making 500chp

I'm trying to put together a engine build up, NA prefferred to generate enough reliable power to put this car into the high 11s on pump gas.

It is for a street driven car, maybe.possibly be subject to emissions testing =\

I'm sure I'll need full headers and exhaust, Meziere pump, upgraded fuel pump, larger injectors, PCM reprogram... but what should I do about the engine?

Port/Polish/Ferrea valves, 1.6 RRs, ported stock intake, larger tb?

What cam will give me good street manners, but still make the power?

I'd like to keep the engine displacement close, maybe 355 if a over-bore is needed. I'll prolly go with fordged

Car has auto trans, my shop can take care of that and the converter.

Rear is going to be upgraded to 3.55s from 2.59s.

Get some fully cnc ported LT4 AFR heads somewhere in the 200 to 210cc versions. CNC port the matching LT4 intake as well. Target 11:1 compression for your target static compression ratio during your rebuild. You can get away with pump gas with this compression ratio because you have a reverse cooling engine plus aluminum heads.

If you have to pass emissions then your cam choices are limited. Unless your shop has means to tweak the PCM tuning to get you through emissions. I would run something like a 224/236 on a 112 LSA for a Normally aspirated car if you have to pass emissions. If that wasn't the case I would run something like a comp 306 hydraulic roller its a 230/244 on a 112. Using that combo along with a decent stall convertor and gears should easily get you into the high 11's.

I don't see a year, or where the LT comes from. Elevens are one thing, but I worked a little math.

500hp/355ci = 1.40 hp/ci

1.40hp/ci + streetable + [smog legal]/reality = TILT

RACE ON!!!

Well stroking with a well designed build up may not get 500chp but 400+chp which is more than enough to run well into the 11s.

For example Vic'89 & MrMojo are both running mid-high 12s (weather dependent) with 350cid and stock heads & cam; the former runs a L98 and the latter a LT1.

But how close to 500 hp is your car? Like I said, I don't think 11's are a problem. But 1.4 hp/ci is going to have trouble at most smog checks.

RACE ON!!!

My combo is not that far off and I think it will be there with more tuning. LT1 383, 10.7 Static CR, AFR comp ported 195 heads, CC 306 cam. If you want to ensure 500 CHP then stick a good solid roller in there and you will be above 500CHP. While my cobo may be a bit short I did build it to achieve 500 HP and still believe it is there with a swap to comp R lifters and a good tune. BTW plan on spending 7K including the heads if you do all the work your self.

Default 525HP and 530ft lbs Torque Engine Dyno!

I just got my 396 LT4. Yes, I know you wanted to stay close, but basically its a stroked 350. It has the AFR LT4 195 heads, Custom comp cam Hydr. Roller, 586 intake, 544 exhaust, LT4 intake (not ported), 11.2 to 1 JE SRP pistons, forged crank and pistons, it was dynoed with a 52mm Throttle body. All this was done before shipment, I have the dyno sheets. I was looking for 500-510Hp at the crank. So I got a bonus in the extra 15.

I have to send the computer out to get adjusted to these engine settings, but just driving it in the awkward condition it was in with that program, its going to run real well. I am in the process of braking the clutch in too, but since I am going out of town this week, I'm sending the computer out to Ed Wright and hopefully it'll be ready when I return. Yes to the expensive part. But the stroker kit can be found reasonable on the internet from some of the parts houses. I'll be posting some rear wheel numbers and times form the track when they reopen.

It drives real well as far as streetable, and the test drive, while there were severe idle problems, above that on the road, it was exhilerating and I see lots of promise.

I pulled out my 27000 mile LT4 and it is in a crate awaiting future calls.

Best of luck.
