Default Longtube Headers

Ok guys i just got my B&B TriFlow CatBack system for my 1996 LT4, I want to get rid of my cats and castiron maifolds and get some longtube headers. What headers will bolt up to the cat back and also have the air injection bungs on them. I dont get emission tests around here so I could care less about Cats.

If you're going to remove the cats then you might as well remove the AIR system as well and clean up the engine compartment. The AIR system serves no purpose other than to help the cats light off faster.

Will that affect the way the engine runs if u remove all of that air injection system?

If your not running cats then there is no use for air system, just block off the back of the intake manifold. headers and no air pipe also makes spark plugs changes much easier.

I went with EM longtubes which had the AIR bungs already plugged. If you're going to remove the cats, you'll need a custom exhaust setup from the collectors back to the resonator.

On the 94-96 LT1 B-bodies, there is a TSB for disabling the AIR pump. It turns out the LT1/4 can meet OBDII without it. Some folks worry that without an AIR system, the cats will clog. I don't think this is an issue with a properly working ignition systems. As the opti starts dying, it could be an issue.

BTW, for an LT1/4 the electric AIR pump is only on for a max of 240 seconds. I've used my scan tool to watch the AIR pump and in 0*F weather it's on for less that 1 minute.

As I am installing my headers, I ripped the AIR sytem out, I will have cats.

Exotic Muscle is an excellent Header. If you have the money you should go this route but if you want to save money and do more work get some Hooker 2151's.

The LT4 can and does pass OBDII without EGR as well due to the increased overlap. The LT4 Hot Cam increases on this further and will still pass emissions in an LT4. As such if you're running the Hot Cam in an LT1 you can remove the EGR as well and still pass quite easily, provided you don't live in California or anywhere that has adapted their standard. Since the car originally had EGR you can't remove it, even though you don't need it, blah blah. Why can't they just make it easy. If your car passes the tailpipe test, it passes. If not, it doesn't. Plain and simple.

I went with the EM longtubes with my B&B.. Unfortunatly, I live in a state where I have to have cats, so got a pair of RTs.
