Stranded today; code 42/ign help, STAT!
Started couple of days ago - missing at upper RPM, like above 3k or so. Gradually got worse, moved down to 2k, then idle started screwing up...
I looked around for the brown/black wire that I was told to check, I guess that's the one that goes from the dist. to the 3-wire connector in the cap, behind the Tach/Power plugs? Looked fine to me, at least on the outside, so I decided it was the pickup.
Went to CarQuest, bought a new one, took the cap off, put it in - same story. Missing all over the place, practically undriveable. Just in case, I put my other MAF on to see if that might be it, but to no avail. Now it barely starts, and dies shortly after - I couldn't even make it to my garage - it's sitting in the street.
So:
Codes are 36, 32, 42. That's MAF burn-off function fault, EGR system failure and Electronic Spark Timing respectively. The EGR sensor was busted for ever and a day, so i don't think it stems from that, but could it? To this extent? So what the heck is going on, and which one is responsible for this?
PS. SES was on for a while, and it ran fine, so I wouldn't know if any of these are from before or after it started to miss/etc.
Help!
I really gotta get that book...
