problem with my 85
Thanks for the advice again. Yes we are talking about the same 85. Not much more trouble then pulling a pump from a 1990 Miata, had to do that to check on the filter and pump, and possible water contamination. Like I said I will be posting the results of this in the next day or so.
One thing that seemed strange to me is that it will idle now since changing the frame fuel filter, but the pressure is staying the same as before changing the filter. It still will not take the gas right I sort of have to sneak up on it, real gradual. Running better slightly but not well enough to move it up my driveway into my garage. As soon as the moving effort is put to it it dies. I guess it would be a good idea to check the volumn as well as the pressure.

Well I said I would be back when the problem was solved. It was the fuel pump, pulled it out yesterday. It did not look bad, I mean like the sock was clean, and the connections were all good. No outward signs of any thing being bad. And it ran, but was just barely pumping. I picked up a new pump and screen for a little over a $100. Installed it, cranked it up and it ran like it use to. I erased the codes. Took it for a spin, and it ran great.
I really appreciate you guys helping me with this, too bad we don't live close, I would take you all out to lunch.
It is difficult explaining symptoms on here, but it is even more difficult trying to understand them and tell some one what advice will solve the problems. So I appreciate your time and efforts. I know as difficult as it was standing here and physically looking at the cars problem was, it had to be twice that difficult try to supply answers. This is a great forum, and hope it never changes.

Yes I was and very proud of it. I took the advice too, and ordered a Helm's manual for it. Just too bad there is not a way to repay you all for this good advice. Best way I can then is to say, Thank you all, and hope you have a good and safe Holiday.

Little known fact, but in the Marine Corps, Gunnery Sargents run the show. They are the "*****" in the "crotch." Glad you were able to resolve your porblem Gunny.

Joe you are right on that, what cant be accomplished when sensible people but their minds to some thing. I would have rather been on the answering end of it then the asking end. But there has to be some that know it and some that don't know it. Thanks, I am glad we could come to a fix that worked too, I hate unsolved problems don't you?
Miffin I understand. I have tried to answer questions like this and it is very difficult to say the least. I just wanted to give every one a fair shot at it.
Hope your son is not in harms way. The old saying once a Marine, always a Marine, I guess can be applied to me, and your son. Hope he remains safe.
Happy Holidays to you all.

Mike...
I am not understanding you here, wrong about what? Wrong about the kind of information or your taking over here? If it is about how to change the pump, myself or any one else would be more then happy to go over that with you. Either on here or through a personal e-mail. This is what this forum is all about like I said in several of my postings. I personally don't see anything wrong with your posting, but if it is information you want, just ask, ok. The pump I bought had very good instructions with it too, it is pretty self explanatory though, hard to put in wrong really.
Thanks and take care............Gunny
