Default Alternative fix for floppy door panel

My drivers door panel flopped around and kept falling off at the top. I read the tech tip we have posted and pulled my panel off to have a look at. I had an idea that seemed a bit better and easier to me so I went ahead and tried it. The theory is to raise up the upper edge of the door that the panel clips to and keeps falling off of because it has given up its grip with time. I have a drawer full of those little body clips for sheet metal that you use for example when you attach an inner fenderwell to a fender. You know the ones that slip over a piece of sheetmetal and have a hole in them for a sheet metal screw. I grabbed about 5 or 6 of them and clipped them over the top edge of the door. They stuck up about 1/8" over where the top of the ridge used to be. I liked this idea better because now I had many gripping spots for the door panel rather than just one at the front and back. I put it back on and voila, stuck tight.

I had the same problem but the way you fixed yours sounds better. I just drilled a hole in the door panel and in the door. I put a plastic anchor in the hole I drilled in the door. I bought an black plastic screw cap at Lowes and used a long screw. My interior is black so its not that noticable and it almost looks factory. I don't have a spacer between the door and door panel but was careful not to pull the screw in to tight. Is held up for a year now.
