Default Breaking into the 12's! For respect

I just found out the 05 GTO will have 400hp and 380tq - 0 to 60 =4.7 This is the new generation. Horse power wars. There has to be over 1/2 dozen cars now that are breaking into the 12's stock. How does this make me feel, I really wouldnt care if I wasnt putting loads of money into my car to reach the high 12's so I can keep my 93 vette ahead of the pack( with the exception of the $50,000. cars). But to be honest with you guys, I think its time for me to come to grips that our vettes have been supassed by new teck hp. Im just a proud vette owner trying to keep Americas # 1 sports car on top and its to costly for me to do it.

I've had 3 vettes-I bought all 3 for what they are-not what they could be. And personally I don't need to be the fastest stocker on the road.Just love them for what they are.

Different stroke for different folks. I mods my 93 vette to a 1000rwhp level. Therefore I am not worrying about new cars are out horse power than mine. Car manufactures will never ever going to produce a 1000rwhp cars for the public. I went from a stocker 350ci 300hp to a 400hp with head/cam combo. That combo is only good for a yrs. I want more, I installed nitrous but I want power at all the time available to me. Later, I got a supercharged 383ci with absolutely "untuned" making 544rwhp at only 4600rpm and 598rwt. The SC combo could easily making 700rwhp. But later I am decide on doing a big single turbocharge 383ci that will make me 1000rwhp. I LOVE TECHNOLOGY

Ha! Ha! Ha!

I see you need a reality check my friend!

I have a 1987 Corvette and I WOULD NOT trade even for a new GTO! Does that tell you something? (Other than I might be dumb?)

At the end of the day a new GTO will still be a GTO BUT it will never be a Vette!!! In some circles just the word 'Corvette' spoken out loud sends shivers down the spine. As Vette owners we all know A Corvette is much more than just a car, it's our heritage, a way of life, the TRUE American Sports car, part of our family, a tangible realization of our childhood Dreams and bottom line a LEGEND! There ain't a nutter car on the market that can come close to touching that!

I you own a Vette you can always make it go faster. If you own a new Goat or Mushorse you can never make it a Vette!

Sorry if I came across in a harsh manner.

The beauty of my 85 is that it does not look brand new, but with an untuned mid 12.xx and 11's on the horizon this spring, its nice to have the peace of mind that no car is going to dust me unless they can match 400RWHP or so. I fell you bro!

Just port your heads, add a cam, headres and Supercharger and smile!

Oh yeah, @ $10k lighter in the wallet.

My stock LT1 in my '93 puts me at 12.50@108 mph. The only mods are 3.45 gears,2800 stall torque converter, tranny cooler,Big Mouth scoop and a Corsa exhaust.

Add that up and it's still less than a new Goat, but I really like the Goat, makes it easier when you go out with more than one other person.

Next time somebody in a GTO wants to talk trash just take them out to an autocross course or a road race course and see how well all that HP works for them. When that barge goes body rolling off the road you'll see where the Corvette really shines. HP isn't the ONLY thing that makes a true sports car.

One of the reasons I like autocrossing so much.

It's 90% driver!

Well the new GTO is a nice car, and I wouldn't mind making it a daily driver; I'll still always have a vette or something sleek, sporty loud and impractical to throw around on ramps at 90mph

Sales for the GTO stunk so bad for GM that I'm sure the HP increase for the new year is a last ditch attempt to get some sales out of the car. It will never be as mean and lean as the vette...

Bottom line, you don't need 400 HP to beat a Goat.

Let's also not forget that most stock GTO's only run high 13's stock with 350hp. The extra 400hp will only get them to the mid 13's IF they can launch well, or drive well-enough..

I wouldn't be worried. That is stock LT1 territory, and slightly modified L98 territory.
