Default Suggestions for radiator cleaning/flushing

Well, I should start this post off by saying that some things got neglected in tearing down my car. One of those things being the radiator which was left outside for several months. Well, now that I have the time to go through the last of the "reusable or junk it" pile, I notice that the radiator is in the same shape as it was when I removed it. Meaning it's still good, no leaks, all of the cooling fins are in good condition. However the inside may have some debris along with residue from the old coolant still trapped on the inside. My question would be are there any recommendations as to what I can purchase to clean the radiator? Any home remedies worth trying (hot soapy water, etc.)? All advice is welcome.

Since it is a plastic/Al unit stay away from the acid cleaners. I used a liquid degreaser on mine both inside and out with plenty of reverse flush. One of the AC "A" coil cleaners will work also. These can be had at Lowes and/or Home Depot. If you are in a hurry, I'll bet Dawn and hot water will work too.

Many thanks. I'm not in a hurry, so I'll apply all your recommendations to the radiator.

First off, run the garden hose through the upper and lower hose ports, alternate a few times till it comes out clear. Then go to the cleaners.

Also, when you refill your coolant, DO NOT use hose water. Buy some distilled water from the supermarket to mix with your green coolant.

Default Radiator

For $150.00 you can replace it. Then you will know what the inside is like!
