Default Got my Trickflow's today.....

Just got my TFS heads, They look pretty good! I decided to get the TFS-30400007 heads.

Umm, I have the 1.6 self aligning LT-4 GM RR's. What else do u recommend with this install? All I have so far are the RR's.

Thanks!!

And these will be going on a 350 with stock bottom end, Do u recommend porting them, or are they suffice out of the box if they were to go on a SR/219.

porting them further is going to cost a small bundle, are you racing for $$? you'll need to have them milled to reduce the chamber size by 4-8cc's. if they have hardened guideplates, you'll want to remove them since you're going with self-aligning RR's.

Are those heads setup for .560 lift? I know that became an $ option for the AFRs.

ok, go with .039" (compressed) head gaskets, these should run about $80 for the pair. you'll want a nice tight quench

Do you have the stock deck height, how much is "in the hole"?

Add that too the Head gasket for your quench dim.

The tighter the quench (piston to head clearance) the more effective it is. My Chevrolet Power Book recommends .035"-.040" minimum clearance. The benefit gradually decreases as the clearance increases. Once the quench reaches or exceeds .060" the benefits are gone. A stock .025" (or more) deck clearance plus a .037" gasket (= .067") will provide no advantage from quench.

RACE ON!!!

I will be picking up a 383 short block tomorrow and my builder recommends (for me) an .025 compressed head gasket. I don't have the brand or part number yet but will post it tomorrow if you are interested. I saw it and it is white! I think it is a cometic but not sure. I have been a diehard fel-pro guy, but he says this is the ticket. We'll see.

You mentioned the TFS have 7/16" rocker studs, are the GM RRs for 3/8" or 7/16" studs??

I thought the GM LT4 RR are 3/8".

I had a set of the original TFS TW heads. I really didn't like the springs that came with the heads. A set of comp cam LS1 beehive springs and Ti retainers would really lighten things up and make the motor rev more freely. I guess depending on the intake and cam you get you might want to think about switching out those springs and retainers.
