Default My New Project Questions

I recently picked up a white 95 A4 coupe with a bazillion miles and a blown head gasket or cracked head. Either way, the engine is coming out for a quick rebuild. If the cylinders need to be bored, I'm definitely going to build a mild 383 out of the stock mill. Can the Eagle cast 383 crank be internally balanced with the stock rods and Speedpro pistons so that I won't need external balanced flexplate and balancer? If not, does anyone make a crank that can be internally balanced for this app? I'm planning to do some mild pocket porting of the heads and a 3 angle valve job with a LT4 hot cam kit to round out the combo. I'm not looking for all out HP, but something that will work well for a daily driver and work well with the 3.07 gears and automatic. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Hey, my parents live in pensacola. You should be able to internaly balance any combo. A mild 383 is a good way to go. I whish I had the extra $$$ and could get the wifes permission for the Busa. Thats a great color combo.

You should be able to internal balance the crank. It will however be expensive depending on the amount of mallory metal it takes to balance it. The front balancer is nuetral balanced but the flywheel does have a counterweight on it. Sometimes it may pay to get a higher quality crank in order to save on the amount of mallory metal that is necessary to balance it internally. You should speak with a competent performance machine shop and ask his advice, as he may have experience with known cranks that can be internally balanced easier than others.

Eagle does make a crank for your application that is intended for internal balance. There is a limit though on how heavy your rod/piston combo can be to avoid the heavy metal. should minimize it at the very least.

Its usually easier to just say you're sorry for getting it than it is to get permission.

If you're ever down this way with your vette, let me know. I'd love to take a look and a ride.

Thanks for the help guys! I will contact Eagle and see what their offerings are.
