Exactly as the title states.

What size is stock? How do I determine what size I need?

I'd say a 9 1/2 triple E. You've been a member for a while. Don't you read the posts? Check out the FAQ, which is a "sticky" at the top of the topic page and do some searches.

What year Vette do you have?

The size you "need" depends on engine toque curve, gears and application, i.e. street, strip, AX, etc along with personal taste, i.e. do you like a tight feel (like stock) or is loose ok (where the engine spools up to the TC stall point).

Uhm yes i've been a member for a while but haven't really been active on this board for almost 2 years since I sold my 86. I just bought a 90 project car and am pretty much stripping it down and building it back up. I'd just like to do it right the first time.

Thanks for the input on my head post though, I did use the search before I posted that, and didn't really get the answers I was looking for.

1990 w/2.73 gears. Those will be changed though to probably 3.54 or something close to that. I like a lot of low end grunt and like the trans to shift hard to the next gear. I'm getting the trans redone by a friend that did the trans in my old car and did a good job on it. He drilled some holes out or something in the valve body plate(?) and added stiffer springs so it shifted really firm. Main application is street driving as I don't see myself getting to the track very often.

I'm still debating on the engine specs. Only thing I know for sure is a super ram intake and free flowing exhaust.

Are you referring to stall speed??
Most places need cam and rear gear info to recommend stall speed. With a Hot Cam and 3.07’s I’m looking at 2500 stall, I thinks stock stall is a round 14-1600.

I believe your stock TC is, like mine was, a 1,500rpm unit; I think your '86 may have been a 2,000rpm stall TC.

If you liked that stall I would suggest going to a 2,000-2,400rpm 12" lockup TC. With such a change you will not need an added tranny cooler and the TC won't feel too "loose", especially if you go with the 2,000rpm stall.

You will lose a little low end torque with the SR but even a 2,000rpm TC should bring that back by launching higher in the power band. And 3.54 gears will give you a lot of pop a the hit of the throttle too.

Your stock heads will flow to around 350chp but you might want to also add 1.6:1 RRs if not doing a cam, to use some of the SR's capability.
