Where is the biggest restriction in the L98 exhaust? The stock shorties? The precats? The main cat? Mufflers? I have stock shorties, no cats, Flowmasters, how much will I gain going to longtubes?? Being snowed in is making me crazy so I came up with this.

The long tubes should give you a kick you can feel. If I were you with an L98, I'd pick up a stock LT1 system (real duals) as are sold cheaply or given away here on the forum frequently, throw your mufflers on it and I'll bet you'd pick up a good 20 or so along with the headers.

All of what you listed is a performance hindering part on the L98. LT headers are almost a must, but you'd do well with a set of 1 5\8th primaries and aftermarket cats. The L98 is a torque monster and needs some back pressure... plus that you won't be killing our fresh air.
Thanks for the input. We don't have smog checks here but someday it will happen. I saw a liink on another thread(N C Kid confession thread ) to Pypes, a co. that makes converters for a fair price. I may get them if its in the budget. I havent gotten a 40 hour week in months and its not helping.
Good question. I wasn't sure the LT1s had duals. A couple weeks ago there was a thread about flow of one large pipe compared to two small ones but at the time I didn't pay much attention.
diameter makes a big differance.. 3" single 2.25" dual.. the voluume is what makes the diff.. restriction is the biggest obsticle in the exhaust world always has been.. i would also be curious if a single 3" mid pipe could flow like two 2.5 dual pipes out teh back anyone have some numbers ??
