Default 89 L98 precats-Cats

Want to go w/ an aftermarket exhaust that retains the precats and main. I'd like a 2.5 inch system. Is there a reasonable priced performance precat or are they all the same? Also, considering the new Delta flow 50's from Flowmaster. They supposedly keep resonance down and look pretty clean. Was considering A front Y-pipe kit from MAM. Anyone try these. My stock system's pretty rotten. They have a stock looking muffler where both outlets function but hate to buy them if they don't flow any better. Thanks!

Honestly, you wouldn't need precats if you got a good main cat, and you can get high-flow ones that don't rob you of any horsepower. Are you thinking duals, or just a 2.5" front and rear Y with the stock 3" center section?

If you're looking toward delta 50's, I have a pair I'm trying to sell, so I can go louder and get 40 series.

The precats are just that - they only help at start up.

if the car is hot when you take it in, the main cat will pass you with flying colours.

Gut the precats, this way they look like they are there.

Don't get the MAM cheapo dual outlet muffler, they are junk! I replaced my originals, which were rusted out, with them in 1998. I needed a rear Y-pipe (6 years and 15K miles later) and when I removed the mufflers they were completely rusted apart from the inside out.

The Dynomax rear Y-pipe is mandrel bent 2.5 inch and not too expensive, and their Super Turbo mufflers are OK too for the money, I opted for the Dynomax Ultra-Flow mufflers which are a straight through design and all stainless steel, excellent flow, more $.

Summit has all of the Dynomax options, the Ultra-Flows are not stocked but they can get them in ~30 days. I don't know about the front Y-pipe from MAM, but from the picture it is not mandrel bent, and from my experience with their mufflers I will not buy from them again.

Thanx for the info, guys. I know the Dynomax lines makes some good toque, but I'm not crazy abou the sound of most mufflers with packing. Had a set of super turbos and Hooker Super turbos, and hated it-(on my elky)Sounded like a lowrider. Was hoping those flows were quiet enough. Saw a set on a late 80's C4 this afternoon and they looked clean.
