Default What stage for heads

I have been in contact with Bob at Precision Porting and I have been looking at stage 2 heads with the ported intake. My car is a daily driver that does not go to the track (there are none here really). So my question is, is this the right stage or should I do stage 3 for the hell of it?

Also, what cam should I go with? I would love some recommendations here please. Thanks!

Hay Jody!

I took a look at your car and profile. You have already done extensive work on the exhaust and intake flow with the Random Cats and the 52mm throttle, etc.. If money is no concern, I would go for all the porting you can get. I would generally say your car (more than most daily drivers) is ripe for it. If the heads are as far as your going into the engine, you might put it back together with some roller rockers. TPiS sells split sets so that you get 8 rockers at 1.5 and 8 rockers at 1.6. I have seen most cars benefit from the 1.6's on the intake valves while leaving 1.5's on the exhaust which seems to promote smoother idle. Another consideration would be a set of Comp-Cam "Beehive" springs. It's only money (yours).

Oh! By the way. Do you have a web address for the Presion Porting?

Good Luck!

Hey thanks....I have no address, I linked from the earlier group purchase they had here on the forumn. As for roller rockers, that is in my list of must haves with the heads.

So who wants a smooth idle, is that any fun at the drive-in?
Seriously though, he's right. If you can afford the Stage IIIs, go for it. One thing about a great breathing induction system, it will not hurt mileage in normal driving. Look at my mod list, I get one more MPG on the highway than I did completely stock. Bob at PP&C concentrates very heavily on velocity and not just big flow numbers which results in good driveability and response as well as an abundance of power. Also as Strike3 said, I too would suggest the beehives. They have many advantages over conventional springs including plenty of future growth for added valve lift. The Stage IIIs also get bigger valves, the chambers and valves coated increasing component life and keeping the heat where it's beneficial. You can get the bottom of your intake coated too, to keep the intake air cooler. I also got my exhaust ports coated. Bob is good people, few are the businesses or people I would recommend as highly as he. Keep us posted on your project and tell him that I and others from the forum sent you!

Just looked and saw you had a polo coupe. May I commend you on your exquisite taste... Looked at your pics too, those Corsas look sweet on it. And I just put a set of those muffs up for sale!

Also, does anyone know if programming will be required with II or III heads and a cam change?
