How much power can the stock fuel pump in my '87 support? I've got a 383 MR engine with just about 500 hp / 500 torque at the crank. Should i replace the fuel pump? What about the feed and return lines?
You need to change your pump. Get a walboro 255lph high pressure pump that goes in the fuel tank. It a very easy install. I have it in my car and it feeds my 500hp car with no problems...The stock fuel lines are fine. 24lb or 26lb injectors are also needed..
I would think of the upgraded pump as cheap insurance frankly. From what I've seen, the GM stock pumps (on many GMs not just Vettes) are prone to failure. While I'm not advocating that folks running stock setups go out and buy the Racetronix kit, I would say that it's an easy choice on a heavily modded setup like the one you have. I would recommend the Racetronix kit available from Racetronix and many resellers. It uses the Walbro pump mentioned in this thread along with a nice shielded wiring setup that'll ensure you're getting steady voltage to the pump.
Where did you guys get your Walbro pumps from? I came up with a lot of places that sell them, but couldn't find anything specifically for an '87 vette. thanks!
