I just had a Chevy dealer replace my oxygen sensors on my '95 six speed a couple of months ago. It was running rough, there was a strong sulfer smell, it was running rich, and the service engine light was sometimes on. They put it on their computer (I assume) and the o2 sensors were bad... They put new ones in. Well, here we are 2 or 3 months and $$ later... SAME DAMN THING!!
Is it possible that something else is killing my oxygen sensors? If so, does anyone know what it could be? Maybe I just got some bad sensors from them? Any ideas would be appreciated.
we have alot of problems up here with bad gas.. areyou running cheap gas?? we have had 2 instances in 3 years that has resulted in bad gas destroying O2 sensors.. just a thought
Now a vacuum leak sounds interesting. My motor has always has a strong hissing sound... I chalked it up to an intake sound... just sucking air in as normal. Problem is, I'm not familiar with how these motors are supposed to sound. I spent many years around Mustangs so I know about them... Vettes are totally new.
Does anyone elses LT1 make a sucking or hissing sound?
in addition to the comments above, see if you can pull the BLM numbers out of the ECM to see if it is being fooled into adjusting to too rich.
if that checks out OK and you know it's running rich, other areas to check are vacuum leaks and leaky/faulty injectors. misfire could also screw things up but you would probably feel something like that.
try to get it diagnosed soon since there's a good chance the cat will eventually go south under these conditions.

You can take a propane bottle ( no flame of course) and move it around the intake, exhaust etc while the engine is running. If the RPM raises at a particular spot, you have found your leak.
