Default 89 l98 Start/no start

Here's one for ya-Car's in shop jail. I pulled injectors, cleaned em, ported entire intake, replace EGR valve, switch, sensors, vacuum lines, etc. Took it in and had idle reset. Car idled like glass. Took it down the street and romped on it and @ the next light it developed a bad miss at idle and part throttle. After all this I threw my hands up and took it to a shop. He put 26lb Accels in, replaced alt(dash lights flickering, batt light on) Car starts and runs cold, but it won't when warm. Computer readings are haywire. All tune up parts are new, TB cleaned, etc. WTF is wrong with this thing? I've almost had it! Also, the fans come on most of the time when key is in the ON pos.

I hope he saved your stock injectors as you likely didn't need the new Accels, unless one or more had low resistance readings.

Now jumper ALDL pins A & B (upper right) with a paper clip, turn on the ignition and cound the SES flashes to pull the codes. You will see three "12"s flashed, followed by each trouble code flashed three times and terminated by three "12"s.

Report back here with the codes.

Thanks for piping in. Car's still there, so I can't get codes. I requested to the mechanic that the originals be saved, which I doubt he did ( I also requested it was kept inside, which it wasn't-Guess who has water in their interior?). I just pulled them , took 'em in for cleaning. Saw them on the machine, ran them through all the tests, ohms checked out. The owner claimed ohms weren't checking out as the Multecs are prone to failure, which I agree w/but sort of question. I can't afford to throw parts at it but will if necessary. I'm not downing the guy (he's a member), but I'm starting to wonder. He also mentioned something about not being able to locate a second ground to the computer (mounts near intake?)

OK, well I agree about throwing parts at the problem; the codes will really be helpful in isolating the problem.

You can check out ignition by attaching a timing light to see if misses coincide with missed flashes.

A bad MAF or relay could cause problems like mentioned.

Those 26lb/hr injectors may be a little large for a stock L98, so an AFPR may be needed to drop fuel pressure a little.

I thought they are a little biggish also. I'll have to let him do his thing and see what the end result is. In the past I've always had good experiences with his work and faith in his diagnostic abilities; Hate to second guess him and pi$$ him off; I'm just a little concerned. Maybe I shouldn't be. But after 8 weeks...See what happens
