Default Best Torque Convertor ~$300 ?

Is the GM S10 torque convertor still the best one available for around this price range, or would it be better to go with a B&M or TCI or some other company? Looking for stall around 2000-2400, must retain lockup, can't afford a Vig., or much above the $300 range. '89, 700R4.

I would not use a tci. I have had many problems with their products. This includes 3 defective convertors in a row.

You get what you pay for. For $300, you are not going to get anything better than stock.

I had a B&M 2400 stall from summit and there was 0 gain in performance. That converter cost me around $400!

Spend the money and buy a good converter you won't regret it.

IMHO B&M products that are good are the shifters and thats about it.if you want cheap but good try YANK converters.

call PTC, i have a 2600 stall in my car now, but it will be coming out in favor of a higher stall yank, but for the money it can't be beat. and it dropped my car .35 at the track

Does Yank even make a convertor for the earlier vettes with the L98 / 700R4 combo? Their site seems to start at 93 and later LT1s.

I,ve been running the S-10 converter in my car for about two years. It is a direct bolt-in swap. I've been very happy with it. I'd say the performance gain was pretty decent, especially considering the price. I bettered my 60' times by about .15-.2 on average with the converter and I've had zero problems with it.

I have had my s10 in for about 3 mths the stall is only around 1300 but I blow nitrous through it the trans guy said he did not know how long it would last with the nitrous.
My other car has a vigalanti in it for the money not to impressed but I did lose .05 on 1/4 times with it.
The s10 converter I did not gain at all.

I had an S-10 converter in my Impala SS, it sucked big time. I lost mph in the 1/4 mile and the stall speed starting creeping up. I pulled it after 3 months after it exceeded 3000 rpm.

I replaced the S-10 with an SLP, took a couple tenths off my 1/4 mile time and my mph was back. 50K miles later and many runs down the strip, it's still running strong.

SLP TC cost me $300.

I went with the SLP, make over 400hp and haven't had any problems yet. It is big and heavy, but it stalls right around 2400.
Good luck....
