Default cat removal- 92 lt1

ok i have a cloged cat. i dont have to worry about emissions. so is there any reason why i would want to keep cats on? i think i want straight pipes in their place. i have shorty headers. will i get any codes thrown by doing this? how much should i be looking at to do it?

thx

Default "Cat" removal

I just finished putting long-tube headers on our '96 coupe. I removed both cats . I installed "O2 sims" for the sensors behind the cats and reinstalled the ones in front of the cats(into the headers). I have had NO problems at all. I don't know if your "OBD" system is the same as mine.

Rear o2 sims are not needed on pre 96 cars. I'm not even sure that the 92's had a after cat o2 sensor.

that's affirmative, there are no o2 sensors after the cats on the 92, just one o2 sensor on each side in the manifolds that picks up on how rich the car is running and adjusts things accordingly.

yes, it'll throw a code if you just leave them out. It'll also run rich and get poor gas mileage and performance.

weld in new O2 sensor bungs in the straight pipe and install your O2 sensors.

The pre-cat o2 sensors can't be removed or replaced with sims. Your PCM uses these o2's to control the engine's air fuel ratio.
