Default Did i do something wrong??

Installing ball jonts this weekend - late start yesterday and I've spent way to much time filing the a-frames and knuckle to get rid of the casting marks, and I still need to finish tonite.
So the right side is all back together, but the lower boot doesn't seem right. It won't stay flush against the a-frame and I can't see where this thing will hold grease.
Pressed in the ball joint with the tool from AutoZone (this is really a slick tool) then put the boot on top between the knuckle and the a-frame.
There is no instructions from MidAmerica on these things and the original boot installed from the top as well, but had a metel band the went down inside the a-frame and was "pressed" onto the ball joint. The new boot don't got one of those band thingys.
Is this the way it's supposed to be? Or did I f up?
Any help ASAP is appreciated.

Even the Helms isn't clear in this. It shows step by step illustrations, but you can't see the boot, for the pressing tool in one. In another, it looks like the boot goes on before it is pressed, but it isn't clear. I had a shop press my lower ball joints, so I can't comment from experience. The boots DO go on the uppers, first. I would expect the lowers to be the same.

RACE ON!!!
