I finally got the shift kit in, and overhauled the entire valve body. The first time I installed the kit, I used shop rags and was not all that clean. The trans did not shift right at all ofter that. So I took the car back up to the base hobby shop and took the valve body back out. I tore the entire valve body apart and cleaned all valves, sleeves, springs, etc. in Mineral Spirits and then brake cleaner, and then used compressed air to blow everything out with. I then lubed all parts with Moble 1 ATF, and put it all back together according to my GM service manual. I was very careful not to contaminate any parts with lint, dirt, etc. I even wore latex gloves the whole time while handling any part of the valve body. I reinstalled everything, and installed a new filter, and also installed a chrome oil pan for it that was 2 quarts deeper, and a magnetic drain plug. I took it for a test drive, and WOW. It shifts super firm now. When I installed the transGo, I went with all settings for the firmest shift possible. It has neck-snapping shifts now. Also, 3rd gear hangs in a little longer now before shifting into 4th, which is probably okay. Over all, I am pretty happy with the results, but have not had a chance to give it a good testing with all the rain we have had lately. I hope these much firmer shifts will not hurt the trans in any way. Also, I still have a D36 so I hope that will be okay too. Any thoughts from you guys? Thanks!

Good job! You know what they say... "cleanliness is next to godliness!"
The firmness of the shifts won't hurt the tranny. My D36 has survived just fine (knock-on-wood), even on the drag radials.

The Transgo kits are an excellent choice. We have been using them for many years now. ALL of the instructions have to be followed to the "T".
The firm shift is too much for my car. Be careful the extra firm may cause some future driveline problems.
Enjoy !!

What kinds of driveline problems? How quickly can these problems developed? What about the internals of the 700r4? I want to make sure I do the driveline upgrades before I have a breakdown a couple years from now, if I even have that long. Anyone else on here did the TransGo with the firmest shift??

I went with the firmest setting also (as per the instructions with the vig 2800 stall converter). The only thing you might want to consider is replacing the U-Joints from the driveshaft back (that's what I did). Other than that, you shouldn't have any problems...
A few years ago I had my A4 rebuilt with performance parts and a TransGo like shift kit installed along with a 2,000rpm TC.
It still chirps the tires on the 1-2 shift and launches in the 1.9sec range. I'm still running the stock D36 and some U-joints, with over 145k miles on the clock and several hundred passes down the 1/4 mile at Englishtown.
If I get my launch times below 1.8s the D36 may be in jeopardy but for now I'm not worried about the D36 nor other drive train components.
Glad to hear you've got it whipped I was wondering how it came out for you. As far as the 700 internals.....if you ever have to have it overhauled be sure to upgrade to a heavy duty sun shell and forward input sprag. For now enjoy the fruits of your labor!!
I have a transgo in mine. When it shifts it feels like i'm getting rear ended by a dump truck. also it hits 3rd gear harder then 2nd. I have 10 clutches in the 3/4 gear pack, and I can stay at WOT in 4rth, and it will not down shift unless I pull the shifter back. The guy that built my tranny rules!!
I have the full race Transgo in mine...I drag race mine a lot though so I did it all...rebuilt tranny good to 500 rwhp, Dana 44 conversion with a new posi unit and new 3:73's, new u joints, poly bushings and new shocks...I run DR's all the time as well...mine hits real hard on part throttle but the shifts are like lightining at WOT....

Sounds good!! Thats in my plans, a transgo kit, but after the trans is rebuilt, I have 100k miles on the car, so if I add the kit now, I'm afraid that will kill it! Did you keep the stock torque converter??

I have a trans go with a vigalante 3000 stall the down shift into 1 gear is real hard but I have all the heavy duty plan and sun shell.
1-4 is so fast that I could never shift that fast with a 6 speed.
It sure leaps foward in every gear but I also have a D44.with 3.33.
