Coolant flush... remove t-stat?
This seems like the easiest way. Then I don't have to wait for the damn thing to heat up just to circulate the water and whatever cleaning agent I put in. And wait for it to cool down to get back under the hood.
No need to lift the car to get at the knock sensors. I can even run the garden hose through the system to flush it, with no tstat.
I've always removed the stat and run the car up to operating temp with the first flush, then backflush with the car off for the second flush. Then flush the cleaner out with the engine running.

Me, too, although I don't let it get above about 160 degrees - makes it too hard to work on. Seems to clean out ok at that temp.
The thermostat is so easy to remove on these cars, it doesn't make sense to not remove it. Actually, the coolant flush and fill procedure on these cars is pretty easy, other than having to remove the knock sensors to totally drain the block.
