Default Performance MAF?

Are performance MAF sensors a waste of $300?

I wouldnt ever spend that much money on a MAF, all you need to do is remove the front and rear screens on yours, if you have an L98. I would not remove the heat sink fins inside.

If you have an LT1, leave the damn thing alone.

The 'performance' MAFs are just a gimmick to get your money.

I'll fall for a $59.95 gimmick but not a $300.00 one, I guess.

when I went from stock and put on the Granetelli Mass Air and BBK throttle body and a K&N filter with cut lid I went from a 13.75 to a 13.28 in the 1/4 mile and made a hell of a difference on the *** dyno.

Get one ONLY IF your existing MAF is dead. There are many posts about screen removal etc; Personally I only removed my rear screen as too costly gaining a few HP IF some bit of crud DOES manage to get past filter housing and hits the tiny wire...JUST my oppinion

We have used the Stock MAF (de-screened and gutted - no air fins) to low 10 sec 1/4 mile times on our 434s. You will be wasting your money on a larger one, unless your making more than 650+ HP naturally aspirated.

I have run both SD and MAF and they are transparent - the MAF actually 60's better with the tube and MAF in place than the SD does in repeated tests.

Don't bother- get something than will matter.

Can't arque with that kind of success.......

I am looking at the larger body MAF....82mm....since the cross sectional area of a single 82mm opening matches almost exactly the cross sectional area of twin 58mm throttle body...and I did already go with the 58mm throttle body

If you upgrade to 58mm throttle body without upgrading the MAF it seems like you have created a mismatched system of sorts?????

I am going to spend the $59 it hopes that it might help....still haven't seen it but it is on order..

Update: I just got it......smallest diameter is 80mm plus I am not sure about the "air foils" in the center.....

LT4BUD -
I would be most interested in what you think about your ported MAF. I might do the same.

It will install, yes - but it won't add any power. It was a joke, they were comparing "performance MAFs" to the airfoil (which is notorious BS, like the turbonator, etc)

point is, all those "free" or super easy mods don't really do anything. Want more power, sorry bud, but you'll have to change something that actually matters.

Air delivery is always a bottleneck (fuel is easy, spark is too) as well as it's removal. Cams, heads, headers, intake manifolds - those are things that will actually create a need for more airflow. There are people running 10s on this board with stock MAFs, so obviously that isn't a bottleneck.

As for descreening your maf, read this:

http://www.gmtips.com/3rd-degree/dox...maf-screen.htm

....and stop worrying about it.

Seriously people, quad tip spark plugs, jumbo-sized MAFs, what's next? How about header-wrap on your spark plug wires? less heat = less resistance = faster spark, right? Quick, let me make a kit. $59.99 and typically gains 12 rwhp*. Order yours today!

*Actual gains may vary.. a lot.
