I have a 1994 and I have been doing some research and am trying to decide on going with the 383 which is talked about in John Lingenfelters book or a 409 that was an article in "High-Tech Performance." I already know a lot about the 383, and know that many people on this forum are running that but I was wondering about the 409. The motor is bored .100 over with Callies 3.875" crank, Manley 4340 5.85" rods, ross 11.2:1 pistons, ported heads with 2.00/1.56" valves, the TPIS Miniram intake with a 58mm throttle body 30lb/hr injectors, and a zz9 or 409 cam. They say that this motor was making 519hp and 528ft/lb of torque. I was wondering if anyone was running a similar set up, and if the drivetrain would be able to handle it assuming that you are not dumping the clutch or running slicks. Thx for the info.
I worried about the same thing, but they say that it should be fine assuming that the block is in good shape. That is a concern, and I guess I wont know till I get a chance to take it to the machine shop.

Is this from someone with experience working with the LTx block? I've heard the walls are thinner than most. You have to be concerned with core shift also (one side ends up thinner than the other). Notice I edited my post above.
I have heard that this can be done by both that article and an my Dad's engine builder (has built a few of his late model race motors) who has done a couple himself. I will have to look into that 4" stroke though, just incase they say my block won't handle it.

I just took a look at your info, and saw that you are running the 383 that is similar to the one lingenfelter has. How do you like that? 390hp at the wheels is pretty good for the 383.
