Default Need Advice - Pistons, Computer, ignition?

Around March 1st, my car goes into the shop for my build:

Intake:

Superram plenum, runners, edlebrock base all port matched, 52mm TB

Set of 113s have been ported/polished to 2" intake, 1.6" exhaust.

30lb Delphi injectors (I know, bigger then they have to).

EM 1 5/8ths LT headers, Y pipe, hooked up to my current Flowmaster exhaust (gonna be loud) ; )

SR 219 CAM, Comp Cam 1.6 RRs, new roller lifters...

Now, that said... I was thinking about bolting those parts up to my stock 350. The builder ( a member on the forum ) has made some suggestions, due to the lack of emissions here and eliminating the EGR, as well as the air pump eliminator pulley, etc.

NOW.. I was wondering what else would be recommended for my build. I was thinking of going with pistons (but didn't know if I should leave that in case I wanted to work the bottom end later)...

I was thinking of a computer, but also realize that the member doing my build is taking care of tuning at the same time.. Wasn't sure if I would gain anything moving away from the stock to an aftermarket..

Now, probably the most important... How about ignition systems? Am I taking a risk (or losing anything) with sticking with the stock system?

Thanks for your time, guys,

-Joe

How many miles are on the engine? If it's over 100k, I would get the bottom end looked at.

Considering you are making a huge bump in power, the rings and bearings should be looked at.

It really isn't going to cost much more than that.

If you have it stripped that fardown, might as well do it. Would be a good opportunity to replace other items such as oil and coolant hoses, etc,-Small stuff that is hard to access once its all together. Plus you wont be wincing if your'e getting on it with an old bottom end.

GM HEI is good up to about 6K rpm, so unless you plan on spinning higher than that, I wouldn't look to ignition right now. Unless you're going to N2O.

Weisco forged pistons are a very good choice and for what you are doing, I'd do it. I'd also go with the Weisco moly rings.

I'll run that by the builder. Tell ya where we end up. So far, I'm getting a no go on another computer (which I figured), ignition is good to 6k (which was what I was comfortable revving to anyway.. Don't want to push it), and a set of pistons would be something to think about.

Alright, from what I understand, stock compression is right around 9.5:1. I'd like to bump it up to around 10.5:1 (I run high octane anyway, and this should be safe.)

Any recommend some pistons with some p/ns?

Thanks,
Joe
