can anyone give me a tip for loosening up the old water pump gasket it is hard as a rock and glued to the block chiseling at it with a razor is getting old specially on the drivers side that is so hard to get to. i tried carb cleaner but it didnt do a thing does anyone know of a way or chemical that will help loosen or desolve the old gaskets any help would be greatly appreciated
went to napa and got the permatex gasket remover sprayed it on waited the ten minutes it reccommended scraped right off then. will never be without it again while removing gaskets

It does work quite well but be careful, it also is a fine paint remover.
yes i figured if it removed that gasket that well it could also remove other things real well so i was pretty careful with it. also i am one to read the directions and warnings thourghly good advice though
You know what else works? A die grinder. If you have an air compressor, you can get a packet of buffing/sanding wheels that fit into the end of the grinder (I got mine from Advance Auto). Pump that thing up to 90psi and buff away - took me all of 10 mintues for the entire thing!
