Default Installing EM Headers, cat question

So I got my EM headers and scheduled to have them installed at EM next week. I really don't want to spend the $500 it costs for the Random Tech cats to be installed so I am going to opt with no cats at all for now. My question is... Once the headers end and before my X-pipe begins, is it normal/correct to just run straight pipes? As I was hoping the shop could just fill in the gap with regular 2 1/2" exhaust . Second...what are some other cats that flow great without spending big $$ on them.

Ideally (for max. HP gain) the X-pipe would be put at the first "hot-spot" in the pipes after the header collectors. This can be determined by running the engine and using a thermo gun or painting bands around the pipes to see where the paint burns off hotest.

Of course you can just install pipes to fill in where the cats might have gone.

Summit sells inexpensive cats but I don't know flow numbers. The exhaust needs to flow 2.2cfm for each CHP. Since you are running duals each cat only needs to 1/2 of the total engine peak power.

You can just have them install test sections where the cats will go. You can also get a set of Dynatech Headers Metal Cats for $149ea from Summit or Jegs or for even cheaper bullet cats you can get a set of Pypes exhaust bullet cats, these are ceramic core cats and are very cheap.

Here is a shot of my exhaust system with the EM headers and here you can see where I installed my cats.

Here's the link for Pypes http://216.178.81.107/iwwida.pvx?;it...0%201?comp=ppe
I also got a set of small replacement cats at NAPA for not much more than these but had I seen these first, I'd have gotten them, they look cooler!
