Do a search. What is one man's everyday driving is another's, "once in a blue moon". If you do a lot of highway driving and don't tolerate higher rpms, well, you MAY want to stay on the conservative side. Try driving around in 3rd, exclusively, for a while and see how that suits you. If you have 2.59 gears, now, 3rd would be like 3.73's in overdrive. Over in the C4 for Sale/Wanted section there is a group purchase going on for complete 3.54 diff assemblies. You can probably change yours for less, but it will give you an idea of what's involved.
A guy in our local "club" just got 4.10s in his LT4 - $650 out the door (parts, labor, etc.). That's the lowest I've *ever* heard of for gears, but the place is very legit. All they do is rear ends...
For the Auto....
2.59..... "Great Mileage...But Power???"
3.07..... "Great Street Gears"
3.54..... "Super Street, and Great Strip"
3.73..... "Wild Street, and Super Strip"
3.07 is ideal for good streetability. If you ever take the car out on the interstate, 3.07's are as short as you want to go. Some guys may be confortable with 3.54's on the highway, but that seems like too many rpm's for my comfort, given a 75 - 80mph cruise speed 3.07's in 4th gear OD would probably spin the engine around 2400rpm, whereas 3.54's would be closer to 3000 rpm sustained. 3.73's, would be well over 3000 rpm's at those speeds, don't even consider them if you plan any road trips at all.
