Default exhaust tube sizes

the stock size is 2.75 inches isnt it? how much power are you guys running before you up to 3 inches? i want to add headers but i dont really want to put on mufflers (although i may put in an X pipe) i will be adding a very healthy cam along with the headres and a bunch of other goodies and im curious if i can just leave the resonator and 2.75 inch pipe and replace the factory H pipe with an X pipe if i will have enough backpressure.

Default exhaust size

Ive been told that you shouldnt go to 3 inch untill your up around 500 hsp. Im up around 480 right now running hookers and 3 inch pipes back to flowmasters and its pretty loud, I dont think I would run straight 3 inch pipes with out mufflers ,especially if you like your neighbors

Be careful here... I used to have a Mustang GT with stock 2.25" (Ithink0 pipes. I "upgraded" to a Flowmaster cat back system that was 2.5" and lost a LOT of low end torque... Unless you have a heavily modified motor, I would stay with the stock size pipes.

A 2 1/2" pipe will flow ~560cfm, so duals will flow ~1,120cfm. Also the system should flow about 2.2cfm/1chp.

So a dual 2 1/2" system should flow to ~510chp before you start to lose power to a restrictive exhaust system. Similarly, a 3" dual system should flow to over 730chp.

so you thnk my stock 2.75 with no mufflers or cats and headers will be enough flow and have enough back pressure for about 400rwhp? i will have a resonator and a X pipe

That will be enough. Although, why not lose the resenator and put some decent mufflers on it?

Is this in a true dual configuration with headers or stock rear y-pipe ('89)?

Here is a link to chambered muffler eliminators that Eckler's sells.

http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...6NFCU64GJ46TA3

Hope this helps.

I have been thinking about getting some, but would like to hear from someone how they sound. My guess is they sound pretty good.

He has a '96 and those Eckler's units won't fit. 1996man, go to Mid America for the chambered units.
