best year for ZR-1
I own a 2000 modified c-5 with low milage but this ZR-1 sounds like an interesting car.
Is there a consensus among the cognoscenti here as to which year
is best....performance wise..... style wise.......reliabilty wise.....color wise......
Just trying to get a handle on what year I probably should focus on.
I know some of it is subjective but it can't all be subjective. Thax,

since you have a modded vet in your garage now . i assume you would most likely mod a zr1 if ya get one . if that be the case get a 90 they are the lightest least expensive of the bunch as they were the most made 3000+. get her fully ported put headers and 410s in her and have a mid 11secscreamer that will from a roll race act ,much quicker due to ,the way the motor rpms and the mph @ the end of the 1/4 . my 90 thats fully ported just this last weekend @famoso ran 11.44 @125.12 mph with a ugly 1.92 60ft. the cAR HAS 148 K ON HER AND RUNS LIKE NEW .these motors taken care of can easly get 250k+ before rebuilding. a friend of mine has one fully ported with just tiny exhaust cam that runs 11.30s with the stk 3.45 rear end .plus the way these babies sound @7200 rpms when shifting is just plain euphoric . i had to have 2but thyen i drive my cars as daily drivers .

The '90 will be the most unique. It has an old style front, with the new style rear. It has lower H.P. at 375 as opposed to 405 for the later years. However it is also lighter, and so there is an argument about which year is the quickest. The later models incorporate some added features that are considered improvements, like the seats are easier to egress, 405 hp as mentioned earlier, traction control, etc.....(however I like the old style seats as well). The '90 and 91s where made in far greater #s than the later years, so they are more readily available, and probaly less collectible. Personally I wouldn't have anything but a '90, because in '91 and later, they changed the C note horn to an F note style.

This question is like the rocking seat/oil pressure switch question for C5s...we see it about once a month. A search would be the best thing for you to do or go to this site:
http://www.zr1registry.com/
All kinds of info there but the bottom line is all of them have the same reliability and there's really very little difference between the years. They all have a very intoxicating sound at 7000 RPM that's unmistakable. I was at an autocross this last Saturday and I constantly heard the comment "I knew it was you on the course". When asked how they knew, the answer was "because of the sound of the engine". Mainly, it's a matter of personal preference as to what year is a favorite due to interior differences ('94-'95 has wider seats as the main change to a redesigned interior), color, 375 HP 2-bolt main/405 HP 4-bolt main (no difference in performance or reliability), and a few very minor exterior differences.
PS I wasn't ragging on C5 issues above as I've owned one that now belongs to my daughter and it has been a great car. It won the SAE International "Best Car Design of the 20th Century" and as far as I'm concerned, it deserves it. Any car has certain minor issues but it doesn't make it a bad car...ZR1s have them also.

Personally,it would have to be a 93 non Ruby option.203 opposed to 245 Ruby cars. All the Ruby cars look the same while the non Ruby cars with whatever color options might be a few of a handful made. And the price for the non Ruby cars is still low enough to get a low mileage car for not much over $35K.

My thought process in deciding which year to purchase was:
1990 - 1993 Older style Sport Seats
1993 - 1995 Higher stock HP than 1990 - 1992
1993 - 1995 Passive Keyless Entry
1992 - 1995 Anti-Slip Regulation
So I chose 1993 as my primary choice, and 1994-1995 as second choice.
Hope this helps.

Like people said, most of the changes between years were changes for Corvette, not ZR-1's. The engine difference being about the only ZR-1 thing of note that changed for 1993.
You can't really go wrong with any of them. About half of the ZR-1s made were 1990's, so they are certainly easier to find, and to find one that's right for you.

Thax for the feedback.
From the little I've read, you can't go wrong with any year you pick.
If I had to choose now, it would be a 1993 due to the anniversary thing and the beefed up motor specs. The best advise I've heard, repeatly, when buying a car is get the newest one you can with the fewest miles. I think this would be wise. I am running a car show on fathers day and will have a corvette corale; If a ZR-1 shows up I will look at it very closely. Some corvettes hold a special place in corvette history and this car is definately there.
Were there many/any options you could get above and beyond a stock ZR-1 or were they all outfitted identical ?

I hope one shows up, but ZR-1s are a rare breed at a car show
