I'm out....blown head gasket, with three other areas getting ready to go. Damaged lifter, which in turn damaged cam lobe. Trying to get parts....cam is not an off the shelf item.

That lifter shows an excessive amount of wear, and I'm guessing the cam lobe is wiped out too? That means a TON of metal has been circulating around that engine for a while. Need to check all tolerances, change all bearings, possibly new pistons, rings etc etc. That's a major rebuild. What kind of lifter is it? I'm betting not a GM product, but one of the VW look-a-like lifters that were thought to be compatible - which they are not! Compare the look of that lifter to any of the ones that are fine (remove from the head) - from the side, they look completely different.

Pieces go straight down the oil galley and lay in the pan...I found most of it...It will come completely apart, but it doesn't need new pistons...rings, bearings, cam, set of lifters on that cam.....put her back together.

I am very curious what data or experience you have to substantiate that claim. I run the VW lightweight lifters in my 427, and both the lifters and cam lobes were perfect upon inspection. Oil analysis likewise showed no contamination. Granted, my experience is with billet steel cams, properly heat treated--not the OE chill-cast iron cams.
