if its not the variable Speed Sensor or its connection and it turns out to be the speedo I highly suggest http://batee.com/ as he can service the unit. GC

Look over the connections really well. I had this problem last summer and ended up assuming it was the sensor. Someone who changed the clutch mangled the wires and did a hack job patching them, there are only 2 thin wires. The connector looked good and i had to follow the wires about 12 inches from the yrans to find the damage.

Looks like u got her running Bradley! Congrats. Yup, only possibilities are the sensor and gear at the back of trans. It’s connection and wiring. Or the speedo itself. Batee.com is the place for speedo repairs.

As others have said. Follow Cliff's link in red. Here's some personal experience...continue until you find the culprit.
1) Make sure cluster powers up.
2) Check wire connections on VSS in transmission.
3) Remove the VSS and attach the 'shaft' to a drill...have someone monitor speedometer with acc on while you spin the drill/VSS--speed doesn't register=VSS possibly bad; speed does register=gear on tranny 'shaft' may be slipping.
4) Reach in vacated VSS hole and locate gear. Try to rotate then slide gear on 'shaft'. If it moves, secure it with its circular single prong clip. You may find the prong extension is not positioned correctly or enough offset. I removed drive shaft to resecure clip on/in gear.
