91 ZR-1 really started cutting out at the Anderson AX this weekend. Secondaries cut out on 2nd lap of each run in 3rd about 6000rpm's. Would reset when I shut off the engine but by the end opf the weekend the "Service Engine Soon" light stayed on and power key would not activate.
My book says to check/replace Oxygen Sensor/s for code 44(lean engine) and check fuel delivery for code 55.
Anybody know the gm part number for the oxygen sensor and have a good source. I'm looking to pick up the LT5 supliments at Carlisle but a buddy has one and says he did not see anything about an Oxygen Sensor in his suppliment.
Also would like to be able to test the sensors before replacing them both.
Finally, if Ox Sensors don't do the trick looks like I gotts start checking fuel system and pumps :nopity
Yeah that's what I figured. I just hope that does it :chevy
Yeah I hear you, I change one of the 4 oxygen sensors on my father in-laws ford, 4 of them :cuss It fixed the problem I also changed the plugs and plug wires but the only code was the one OS and it was running horible..
hope that fixes yours..
Bosch is a good replacement for the oxygen sensor. I think the stock ones are Bosch anyway. I use Bosch #13077 for my 94. It may be the same for yours.
Used Retro Ray's lift tonight and changed the left sensor (44 is left back code). Power seems to be back, I guess I'll give it a good test onthe Ratpack cruise Saturday :reddevil
I think I'm going to change the fuel filter before the cruise/AX this weekend. Looks like an easy swap :chevy
A trick with the fuel filter. Let the car sit over night and then change the filter. The evening before you are going to change the filter, open the gas cap and you can hear the pressure escape. Then don't start it until after you change the filter.
If you go by the book, it says to relieve the pressure from the fuel system. Well, you really can't do that by just opening the gas cap. You can change the filter right on your garage floor Tony. Just jack up the passenger sade a bit. But remember, let the car sit over night before you try and change the filter.
The gas running down your arms while trying to get the new filter on starts to really bother the skin after awhile. Trust me. Been there, done that!

Car still does not seem to have the "ummpf" it had before. :nonod: I think I'll dyno it over at Abacus after I finish screwing around with the filter to see how it compoares to the last dyno run.
Let me know if you want me to drop it off at SGC or LPE and have them go through the car. A 368 or 415 will probably take car of the "ummmff" problem! :D
Will do. I think you're right though. Ran it up over 6 grand in 3rd and 4th yesterday, just not pulling like it used to. Also ran it at a low speed AX today and still getting some soot on the rear. Its not dutting out and throwing the codes now through.
Just gotta get time to start doing the work. I'll take pics and post Fuel Filter, Injectors, and Fuel Pump if it takes all that! :nonod:
I would pop out the injectors and send them to SGC to have them flow tested. Johnny did that to his injectors when he took the top end apart. Aaron found 4 bad injectors I think it was. Cost about 200 bucks to have them flow tested. When I do the P&P I am goign to have Aaron run my injectors to make sure they are all good. Not that I am having problems right now. (knock on wood)
And time.... give Brooke your toolbox and have her tear the motor apart while you are in the UK. If she drives the car, she has to learn how to take it apart and put it back togther, right? :yesnod:

It was 5 injectors 3 primarys and 2 secondaries :banghead: They also had been sitting on my workbench for 9 months..
But I am so glad I sent them to SGC to do the work...
Also I bought my new ones from a guy on the ZR-1 net they had been flow tested and were all good he had replaced them with RC injectors so I got them at $38 a piece I lucked out on that one...so now im :steering:
Wish I had time to yank them this week and send them off while I'm away. Does SGC offfer to replace the ones they find a problem with and if so do they ream you pretty good on the price? I think I'll have to make time to get 'em out this week.
The car is still on the trailer from Pungo, got a Competion meeting tonight some other BCC meeting tommorrow, yadda, yadda, yadda :nopity
Wish you guys were up here or me down there to hook up and do some work, mine is starting to need a little TLC.
I would recommend you replace both O2 sensors at the same time. Not all that expensive for Bosch @ Autozone ($52). Then both sensors will be reading with the same level of accuracy. Carbon in the exhaust does indicate problem stated by Hib and others, enriched mixture.
