Is anybody doing it...or has someone done/tried it? I'm not an ASE certified ZR1 mechanic...so go easy on me. I'm happy if I get oil pressure readings after an oil change on the old beast. Just trying to make conversation. Sounds like it could be an interesting topic. Heck, it's mentioned in the ZO6 vs. ZR1 shootout article!

supposedly one of the reasons the LT5 was killed was because it wouldn't fit under the hood of a C5. Too bad, because if the 475 HP LT5 ever made it into a ZR-1 and eventually into a C5, then the Corvette would be a Viper killer.

don't think it will fit. do some measurements. time you screw around with a different computer and go through the trouble, you could build a killer 422 MTI LS1 for less that would put out 500 rwhp.
just not worth the trouble swapping the LT5 into a C5 due to the computer differences and space available.
stick with a C4 ZR1 and you will be better off in the long run. I agree it would be a cool swap!!!! but not very practical.
saw a LT5 in an older 58 vette that was pretty cool as well as a LT5 powered Grand Sport 67 kit car vette. both worked really well as the cars were close to 3,000 weight.
the grand sport weighed less than 2800. sure wish my 90 was that light!!! pretty hard to do without stripping the car down though.
best of luck.

That should be pretty easy to get to though. It's what - 250-300 pounds depending on year?
- lighter body panels (no urethane)
- lighter glass (or lexan)
- lighter weight wheels
- aluminum or titanium A-Arm/trailing arm assemblies
- carbon fiber drivshaft
- single mass lightweight flywheel
- titanium exhaust <g>
- titanium swaybars
- no spare tire, jack & carrier (50 pounds right there <g> )

Re: (Heart of the Beast)
I read an article saying the the C5 had all the launching, handling, and new design characteristics to die for. The LT5 had the motor related characteristics do die for, ie. high RMP capability and durabilty and breathing abilty.
So get the HP from a LT5 setup and stuff it in a C5 and you will have the ultimate ride from every aspect.
I am not familuar with C5 enought to say it would fit, but if it did, woooaaaa
what CAR!!!

Re: (Heart of the Beast)
A while ago I believe Graham said the difference was just a few (like three) inches difference in height. It made me think a nice drysump would help that situation.
BTW, from what I understand there was no 475 hp motor in the works. The 450 hp OBDII motor was ready to rock and roll.

They had the engine done?... so they killed it because of what? Design considerations in the C5 hood line?
Moot point I guess ... and I have the comfy C5 seats now anyway :p:
