I have an '03 with a Doug Rippie Motors top end package and a magnuson that is set at 5psi. I am in the northeast and drive it mainly in the summer but it is usually in the 70's temperature wise. Is it worth the $1500 plus for the intercooler kit?
But couldn't you run more boost with intercooled + alky than non-intercooled + alky?
Thanks.
The intercooler is good for cooler air temps when not in boost or when not spraying alky. There's a benefit driving around city streets or cruisin.. but not sure when it comes to making power at the top.
I can see where it would not help power much on a cool day but wouldn't the i/c help the power on a warm day?
With an intercooler on a hot day you'll eventually start getting heat soaked and drop power.. much later than non i/c'd i would imagine gets hot almost immediately, since I only had the i/c'd version.
i/c or no i/c, w/ alky you reduce the effect of heat soak and therefore see no or very little drop.. and again only on hard acceleration or boost.
I'm going I/C but I live in central Texas and it gets to 110 here in the summer. with you being in the NE and if you can get a non i/c mag then go for it, run AI and have fun. the I/C is needed down here IMO but you can make as much hp or more with a non-I/C with the right AI setup and tuning.
