Has anyone done the coil pack relocation that was sold by Xtreme Motorsports? I found out the carbon fiber cover I bought would be cut way too much to cover every thing with the wastegates ect. so I was look at doing this to get rid of the those "UGLY" coil packs

gary i am on the same "page" as you! the stock coil packs are ugly and it would look better if they were more individualized.
i agree - i would like to relocate the coil packs and would like to also find some real nice billet valve covers and remove those plastic peices.
I have seen the Fbody's relocate them under the cowl and it looks really good with new billet valve covers. But this was the best I could get for the time being.
I did alot of research on this subject. I even bought a set of C5R valve covers. But after all the time it would take to make the gaskets, spark plug wires, and brackets to hold the coils I decided to purchase the Katech setup. Katech makes the original C5R stuff and makes a set of valve covers to go on the LSx motors. You can buy a kit complete with coil relocation brackets, valve covers, and spark plug wires. Bolts on with ease.
I just checked out the kit from Xtreme and it is the Katech kit. Excellent product...fit and finish is top notch.
Ditto for me, I hate those coilpacks. I'd love the look of a milled motor and clean valvecovers. But, no place for the coilpacks under the headers, on the crossmember, under the cowl, on top of the radiator.
Hmm, maybe on top of or under the A&A cover between bumper and radiator?
There was 2 coil pack relocations kits.
The 1st on moved them off the valve cover and up by the fuel rails. KingPin has this on his car.
The 2nd used long wires and IMO was pretty ugly. It relocated the coil packs by the radiator shroud. This was demoed on Xtremes shop car. I think that car is in GA now.
KATECH kits is way to much money, all you need is to get some aluminum covers and make oyur own mounts of the side, their kit doesnt tell you you need there covers, so if you get them thru Katech your goning to spend 320 for the brackets and another 300 or more for the covers, thats crazy money to spend, i made my own relocation brackets in my shp with 080 aluminum all tig welded attached to my covers, looks great, i also had the brackets powder coated

What one are you looking for?
I was looking at the relocation to the shroud area. How is it ugly when you don't see it????
You dont see the coil packs you just see a bunch of wires coming from the shroud that are 4-5 feet in length. I suppose you can fab something up to hide them. IMO shorter is better when it comes to spark traveling along a wire.
If you wanted to spend some time you could hide the long wires a bit better... I kinda liked it as shown... Thank You very much
BTW, we tested those wires on that car... absolutely no performance loss.
The billet (CNC'd out of a block) valve covers shown are made by the same guy. The "Xtreme Twin Turbo" logo was acid etched into the covers. And because the covers are billet that means they can be anodized...
Give Mike a call at the shop if anybody has any questions on price and availability.

Hey Bill can they put anything on the valve covers?????
Ya, pretty much anything... just depends on how much you want to spend Acid etching is relatively cheap and very precise... only draw back is the etched area being a dull finish. I think the dull finish actually compliments raw satin finish of the covers shown. Polishing the covers first will accentuate the differences. The guy that etched those covers for us used one of our bumper stickers to scan in his program. Possibilities are endless. There may be some size constraints though... would have to check on that. For the Twin Turbo part he selected a font very close to the original. He does this stuff part time... took him a couple of days.
You can also anodize any color and follow up with an endless selection of custom CNC possibilities... or vice versa... whichever you prefer. I don't know of a CNC shop local willing to take on onesies, twosies... their out there though... just gotta look.
BTW, the valve covers use the factory GM rubber seals...
(edit) I went back and read my earlier post. Awhile back I talked with the guy that does the etch work and asked him if we could follow up with anodizing after the etch work is complete... he said yes but sometimes the etch work comes out blotchy... so I think that option is out. The covers cannot be acid etched after anodizing...

Wow, that is one hot looking engine bay. I'd love to relocate my coil packs but I just can't see spending $800+ on the Katech setup. Anyone else have success with any substantially less expensive alternatives?
Getting long enough plug wires wouldn't be a challenge, but making the coil pack extension harness might be a little tricky.

You could have the valve covers laser etched also. Should be able to that after anodizing.
Diynoob.....I do not see any reason why you can not just solder extensions onto the coil pack wires to make them the correct length.
Oooo... I didn't think of that. Yep, laser can punch right through the anodized coating.
You can definitely solder extensions in place, however, I have not personally tried that. A solder connection, if done right, can have as much or less resistance as does another connector. Don't see a problem with the DIY's soldering extensions themselves. The kit that Gman is interested in has plug-n-play harness extensions as part of the kit...
I did not know there is a plug and play kit. That is cool. Personally I am an eletronics guy and would solder it. But for someone that can not do that the plug and play would be the way to go.
