Sorry for what I feel to be a noob question. The search didn't yeild my desired results.
If you have a low compression shortblock and have low compression heads, are you doing a little overkill? What effect does that have on the overall compression ratio?
Here are my plans.....LS2 408 and I have Stage II LS1 low compression heads. I was thinking of moving the heads over, but I am unsure of how this will benefit me.
You need to know the cc head volume and the -cc piston volume bore and stroke and also need to know deck height and also thickness of head gasket and then use a compression ratio calculator to determine your actual compression ratio. Otherwise you could still be taking a chance also depending on how much boost you run try to set it between 8.5 and 9.5.
Well, low compression heads on a 346 will no longer be low compression on a 408. You're compression ratio goes up on a stroker due to the increase in cylinder volume. 9.8:1 heads on a 346 would be 11.5:1 heads on a 408, all else being equal.

Doh, didn't think of that one!
What would we do without you guys with the smarts?
If after you do all the math and your compression is still lower than what you want, you could just mill your heads to put you right where you want to be.
