Ouch I feel your pain Gary.

Hopefully you won't need a new block.

GARY,

Sorry to hear about your misfortune buddy that really sucks. I guess this comes with the territory of HUGE HORSEPOWER modifications in our C5s. Getting a 402 cid LS2 motor does make ALOT of sense here and i agree with KUMAR, as you will stil make HUGE POWER at a fraction of the cost of the C5R block which in my opinon is a HUGE RIP-OFF (and you know i have bought one brand new before)!!
Another GREAT OPTION for you is a the ironblock LSX motor (LQ4/9) which could be bored over .030 and with a 4 inch crank you have 408 beatiful cubic inches with a SUPER STRONG DURALBE IRON BLOCK as your foundation and for the power levels you are making 85 lbs weight gain is a non-issue. These block brand new can be had for $700 and maybe an even stronger option than the LS2 motor and I DAN BILLS is a fan of the LQ4 ironblock motor!!
Best of luck to you on getting fixed up asap!!!

Gary,

I am in SHOCK!!! I am SO sorry to hear of this news. I have been trying to stay away from the forum as much as possible until I get my car done. Which it goes in Monday! I did't wanna catch the bug. So when I logged on today to see this my jaw is still on the floor. I will give you a buzz this weekend.

Hang in there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes the LS2 blocks are on special, but at most they'll cost you a grand. Built 402 short blocks are about $4k.
Someone makes a darton (dry) sleeve 447 out of an LS2 block, but I can't find it...

Bare block:

GARY,

If there is such a thing when it comes to these types of problems your timing is good as you have a TON of options and GM HIGH TECH PERF. MAGAZINE which i received this week, has a whole entire HUGE article dedicated to about 18 very affordabe stroked LSXXX Blocks making big reliable power. IM me if you want more info from the magazine, as you really do have alot of great options and the few i mentioned above the LQ4 408 Cid ironblock and 402 cid LS2 motor are just two of them!!

The C5R block have been on backorder forever. There should be some available soon. I just got three yesterday. ( They're all spoken for) That means that they should be available through the regular sources soon.

Thanks All,
I heard that the C5R blocks are starting to flow again. I just don't know if I can come up with the bucks to make it happen. I really don't want to go with a iron block (just doesn't sound right in a Corvette) Buy the time you buy all the extra's for a LS2 (I would need new pistons as well) that is going to be some more cash for sure. We sill have not got the word on the old block yet but Dan is sure the top is out of round from the boost. All I know is I will make a plan as soon as I can, I have to have a car this summer as last year was a total bust and I am sure the snow will be here before you know it

you have 4.125" bore on your current motor? 427? I'm sure someone's making a 4.125" LS2 block; MTI is talking about it or doing it right now.

No, I have a 383 stroke engine. So new piston would be a must

No ...I've never been married (still in my late 20's) But my friends are married and they taught me alot . The onething I've learned in life so far that I remind myself everyday is to live life to it's fullest and don't argue with women (they always win even when their wrong ).

Why not just say screw the extremely unnecessary expense of a C5R block or the hassle of retrofitting an LS2 and just get a forged 346? You could have a forged 346 built and shipped to you within a week.

Good Luck,

Mark

Well Mark... with the t-66 I don't want to go with stock CI, When I started the project the plan was for a 427TT, I just never could get over the cost of doing it right. I guess I have to get over it
