Default Autometer Gauge: needs good power

I ran a splitter from the passenger well fuse box to power my boost gauge and was seeing some rather alarming readings. (Like 10 psi boost)

A call to Autometer resulted in the following:

You need power that isn't interrupted during ignition, or the gauge doesn't calibrate correctly. They recommend tapping off the PTCM circuit as that has ignition controlled always-hot-during-crank power.

So, in the footwell fuseblock, I've found a few cicruits that are always hot (BCM) but no others yet that aren't interrupted during crank.

Anyone found something inside the car, or should I cut bait and run the tap thru the firewall?

You will need to get the fishing gear out and tap into the pcm fuse or the fuel pump circuit. I used the fuel pump circuit fuse also the map sensor needs to be mounted so that the vacuum hose points straight down.

Gotcha. I fabbed up a nice bracket out of Aluminum L-bar, there's a good flat spot just to the outside of the brake booster on the firewall that looks like it was meant to hold it correctly.

I'm pretty used to fishing the wire thru. This is the second boost gauge. Never buy a boost gauge off the internet if you haven't seen it in person. It looked GREAT on the web and in the garage and was USELESS in daylight. (Too dim) Further, it was mechanical and I had a hard time running vacuum line to the pillar without crimping it.

I just sold my autometer cobalt gauges only to upgrade to the new Nexus gauges. FWIW my old gauges are in perfect working order and should arrive at the new owners mailbox in the next day or so.

Pretty! And rather Pricey too! (And makes the ECU in the 89 a little jealous...there's more brains in them gauges than in the whole car!)

Yep I got them so that I can concentrate on driving aggresively without staring at the gauges. Also they have a playback mode and the whole dial changes color if I overboost or the fuelpressure drops very cool stuff. Gman did you find a new block yet?

The best place to pick up non-interupted power is off the ignition switch. Pull off the knee panel and tap into the HOT PINK wire. It should look like this.

Les,
Yes we are going with a LS2 block with a new style sleeve that will put me still at a 383. But with the thickness of the sleeve should be able to take major boost lbs

Well, I was hoping to do this without splicing. :
