I'm just curious if there's any huge advantage to running an electronic boost controller over a manual boost controller (like this one: http://www.hallmanboostcontroller.com/)
I know the electronic will be a bit more precise about how much boost it's delivering, but from what I gather, once you set a *GOOD* MBC the boost will never really vary. I don't think I'd personally tinker with the boost setting all that much, except for in rare cases at the track or when I need that extra edge to win a race. I'm at 9psi now which feels like weak sauce and likely want to run 12psi all the time, except when I want to run 14-15psi :
I know that electronic boost controllers can do nice stuff like alter boost based on what gear you're in, provide controllable ramp rates, etc. I just don't know how practical any of that stuff is in the real world. Also, I'm concerned about the complexity of an EBC system. It just seems like there's a lot more that could go wrong with that setup than with an MBC system.
I'd wire the wastegates shut. Honestly every turbo car I have had used a MBC. Make sure you get a good one and set it/forget it. I changed mine 2 times, one street 20psi, one track 27psi.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm thinking. The Hallman Pro can be had off eBay for $80 shipped. They say that the valve that they use means boost will build as fast as it possibly can given a motor/turbo combination. Some of the cheap MBCs use valves or setups that can cause your boost to build more slowly than an EBC would.
I have a Blitz Dual SBC Spec R sitting here -- I wonder if given my application, I'd be better served just getting an MBC and calling it a day. The fewer electronics required to make something work, the better.
Lol... GUYS, guys, guys... I already have the Blitz Dual Spec R. So it's not a question of getting cheap, because everyone knows I am ALREADY cheap It's a question of what will work better, and what's overkill, and what's appropriate given that my boost settings will be 12psi and probably 15psi, if she doesn't detonate at that level.
In fact, I already have the Spec R installed, other than the fact that my wastegates are off the car right now as I swap springs. I just don't know how reliable or necessary an EBC is compared to an MBC for a setup that is only going to swing the boost up or down about 3-4psi.
i love my blitz sbc id iii!
it records up to 3.13 minutes and will record all inputs, not just the screen that its currently on! so record the a/r screen and then review any of the other datas that are inputed.
