Who makes the best units? Vigilante. B&M, TCI? Is one better than the other if the power rating is the same? There's a good bit of diff in $, just wondered if there was the same diff in performance/durablility.
i have tci's new billett 5 clutch lockup. do a search on customer service, here and ls1tech and youll see how they rank.
kevin winstead is the head stall engineer over at tci
I am running a Yank 3500 I had a Vig 2800 just the conv swap gave me almost a half sec 1/4 the 3500 is great no real diff. in normal driving (stock motor with 7# ATI)
I'm into the 11s with absolutely no stall. From the brake to the gas at the green light with a 2.8 60' time. Traction is my biggest issue. I don't see a higher stall doing anything to help that. My tuner and friends that drag race tell me no higher than a 2800. Remember this is an A4 with 3.73 gears too!
I did not want to swich from my 2800 till I had a car from Cartek post a 10.98 to my 11.8 with a sim. setup. Both are nice conv. try a set of bfg drags check the parts section I got a best of 1.70 60'
FLP recommended the Vigilante converter for my Level 5 trans. The reason was the forged components. Apparently FLP had rebuilt a few transmissions where they found converter bits inside as a cause of failure.
I agree that if you compare converters, estimate the Vigilante stall speed 400rpm higher than advertised. I had a 3000stall, under slight accelleration (inching forward in traffic) the car would rev at 2500rpm. I had it restalled to 2600, and it drives much more like stock, it now brake stalls* at 2,000rpm (hold brake and raise rpms till the tires start scratching).
*Some converter companies say brake stall testing may damage your converter, others say it measures the clamping power of your (rear) brakes, and others say brake stall is 400-800 rpm lower than true stall.
