Default Help Needed With Console Switch Assembly

Hi, fellas. Well, my remote bottle opener hasn't come in yet, but I've decided to proceed with the installation anyway. I'll run the wires for the opener so I can just hook it up when it does arrive.

In any case, I'm at the point now where I'm going to be running wires to the NX console switch assembly that I'll have mounted in the ashtray. I've cut away the plastic and the metal tab at the back of the ashtray area, but I now need a little advice.

How do I remove or release the bottom portion of the passenger side underdash so that I can reach up behind the ashtray area with some wires for the switch assembly? I see some round plastic screws/bolts under the dash. Do they just get pried out? I don't want to break anything. Also, where is this grommet into the engine compartment? I believe it's supposed to be behind the battery. Can I easily reach it from under the dash?

Thank you!

On mine, I remove the radio surround completely. If I recall correctly, the radio surround (which includes the ashtray area) shares a common screw with the knee bolster piece you're trying to remove, and the the assembly order is metal bracket, knee bolster, radio surround, screw.

FWIW the radio surround is not that hard to remove. On my vert you unscrew four screws on the waterfall, remove 4 nuts on the center console (hidden by little plastic clips), remove the cig lighter harness, gas cap release harness, slide the console back and out of place... then just unscrew a few screws in the ashtray area, unscrew screws behind the fog lamp/trunk release, and the one screw hiding behind the interior photometer on the right side of the steering wheel (rounded black plastic piece with the small grill in it).

It looks harder than it actually is. If you remove all that stuff you'll spend more time up front, but I think you'll have an easier time mounting the controls just the way you want.

Not sure Trooper, but I did my Aluminum Gauge Bezels and the entire interior came out, one of the pices was the one that was part of the ashtray as you describe.

Do a search on Gauge Bezels and try to find instructions.

You have to take screws off in the center console I think, anyway do a search.

Not much help, but a start!

Thanks, Gary. I don't really need access to the front of the ashtray area, more to the side of it so I can get some wires from the passenger side area to behind the ashtray.

I'm wondering if I took the glove box out if that would gain me access to this area? Maybe I'll try pushing a "fish" through from the ashtray area towards the passenger side and see where it ends up.

I used a coat hanger and attached the wire to the end and then fed it up from behind.

The gromett is located in the upped right hand corner of the passenger kick panel. To get to it you will have to remove the ECU access panel and the passenger kick panel inside the car and the battery in the engine compartment. Its a tight fit so get a fish tape.

I have to assume that you want to remove the plastic cover which houses the light for the passenger foot well. This is held in by plastic push fasteners. They will pull out.
