Default Can i do a blower setup???

i have MTI's Z07 motor package, 427 C5R...
compression is 11.2:1

i have "heard" that a blower can be installed but only pushing a max of 5# boost. is this possible? i wouldn't do this for a while anyways, but just wondering if this is possible...

opinions?

5 PSI may be the limit, you would have see, but not much more. Your dynamic compression ratio is up there with 5 PSI.

do you know what your
piston dome/dish is.
gasket thickness
combustion chamber cc's

if you had the answers to these ? you could look into changing some of the easy things like heads/gaskets to lower that CR. If you get it down to 10.5 you would be at the upper end of the CR for blowers scale.

it might be that changing your head gaskets would get your CR a lot lower. adding .03 to your head gasket would drop your CR to 10.5 or so. you could also look into getting some CNC work done on the combustion chambers to lower you CR.

I'm sure you could run 5 psi and probably 8 psi with alky safely.

FWIW, I was running 13 psi on my stock LS6 (10.5:1) for quite a while... then got bored. I was able to run over 15 psi for a while w/o KR until I ran out of fuel. This was with methanol, but it shows that running 11.2:1 with under 10 psi is clearly possible.

that is funny all of the guys that live in the north say no problem us guys in the south say no way. 11.2 would be ok most of the time but down here when the temp's hit 105 and the humidity is way up there you will break something with that CR.

It's over 90 here all summer... it was never an issue running meth for me. If temps are you're major concern just pull the timing back two or three degrees or run some Torco.

IMHO there's no reason he can't run 5+psi on that engine, even in TX.

AJ,

You are a SICK MAN MY FRIEND!!!!!!!!!!!!! My old MTI 427 C5R ROADSTER's 600+ crank horsepower & TORQUE is not making enough power for your huh! I don't know who is worse now you or I!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I am sure you could run at least 5 to 6lbs of boost all day long no problem, as my old MTI built 427 C5R MOTOR was built by MTI's best technician, LLOYD, as was built with the BEST FORGED COMPONENTS that $ can buy and the motor was built to handle a 150 shot of nitrous all day long. Throw an alky ket on their for a little protection with the 11 to 2 compression and make 700 to 750rwhp all day long.

In your case though it would make MUCH more sense to do nothing but through on a bottle of N20 ( a lil 100 shot for starters) as that will propel that bad boy into the 9s with a 150 shot (if you hook without grending driveline parts) and really would make the best drag race application for that engine and would only cost you about $2K installed (at the most) and you would have plenty of $ left over to fortify the driveline. I BET that is what MTI most likely will tell you, as that MTI built 427 C5R motor has had the most success at the drags with a lil N20 and has put more than a few LS1/6 powered cars into the 9s!!!!!!!!

BUT for crying out loud son, MAKE SURE YOU PUT ON THAT DTE STRUT BRACE and take other measures (your rear end is stock) to FORTIFY THAT DRIVELINE as that BEAST with its HARD HITTING YANK PROTHRUSTER 4000 converter has FRAGGED a few drivetrain parts just on MOTOR!!!!!!!

By the way, HOW's YOUR SUMMER been and have you been enjoying THE BEAST WHICH I MISS DEARLY!!!!!!!!!!!

That's why i had to throw on a ECS D1SC Blower with methanol on my Z06 which if all goes well i should be picking up today making around 600rwhp!!

Hey A.J.,

It's Brian with the 02' ZO6. I agree with 427, just put a nitrous kit on it. By the way, where were you this past Saturday????? I went down to CFR with the MMM guys. I thought you were gonna be there? I clicked off a bunch of 10 second passes with my GTS.

hey guys!
thanks for the comments. you know, i figured nitrous would be the cheap, best way to go. although i LOVE the sound of my procharger on my truck, i would LOVE to have one in the vette...thats why i asked... nitrous alone should put me in the 650rwhp range... its alot, but i've been challenged by some 550+ rwhp Stangs...and well, u know, can't let them win!

Jimmy: i gotcha covered on that DTE brace, going in this winter! summer has been great! lots of car shows and events. no racing unfortunately, no time... working weekends on household projects has limited my play time

Brian: MAN, i wanted to be there, but i had to move in to my apartment and the woman MADE me go to the Fair with her...god i was pissed!!! so how did the chevy's do??? hope Furd didn't win!!!

anywho...thanks ya'll for the thoughts! this winter is comin up...and she'll be in the garage beggin for some mods....
