How much torque on ARP studs. Go with the recommended of 65 ft-lbs. or more. 70? 75?

I am pretty sure I took mine up to 80 ft/lbs. I would have to go back and look at my records, but I think I remember some guys stating they went up as high as 100ft/lbs but I was not comfortable with that at all...so I just went to 80 ft/lbs. 70-75 would certainly not hurt anything.

The recommendation is 65 ft-lbs using the ARP moly lube or 70-75 ft-lbs using motor oil. I don't know if those studs are going to hold 18 PSI or if you are going to need to go with larger studs.

I think they will hold fine. There have been a couple of cars over on LS1tech that have run using the standard size studs..without hogging out the heads to make bigger holes for larger studs. Detonation is what causes things to go bad...control that and you have 99% of the battle licked.

Now over 20 psi...might need some heads with a thick deck. I know of a 408 iron block running 20+lbs making 1750bhp and running 7 sec @ 199mph. Next time we talk, I will ask him what size studs he used and what heads.

Tq of head studs has less to do with how much boost you will be running and more to do with proper TQ specs for the size bolt/stud as well as the material and thickness of the deck of the head you will be clamping (especially with aluminum heads). Gasket type may come into play as well.

Its all about getting the tightest seal while not exceeding the bolt/studs capabilities and not distorting the deck of the head. I generally run 72 ft/lbs with the moly lube. Iron block and Cometics with standard ARP studs and 12 pt nuts.

I am using MP-35 studs from A1 technologies. Torqued to 90ft/lbs as recommended. 270psi tensile strength. No worries with moisture like the L19 studs....planning on running 20psi boost.

Oh...studs are 1000.00 a set
