Hey, I was thinking of getting a 75 shot or so but I was wondering is it illegal to have it hooked up in your car while going down the road? Also will if void a factory warranty(im sure it does)? Thanks a lot.
I would like to hear the answer to this as well. I've always wondered. I had a bottle hooked up right behind my passenger head rest and have been pulled over. Cop took a good long look at it but didnt say anything. Another time, I was riding with a friend who had it, and we got pulled. The cop asked if it was hooked up or not, and we had to show him it wasn't. So who knows.
Not that I know the law for sure but my understanding is that the fact you are hauling a bottle that is under pressure in a vehicle that does not have it clearly marked on the outside of the car. It's a lot like when you see trucks hauling welding tanks around and they have the colored badges on the outside to warn everyone what they are carrying.
Again I'm not sure but that's what I've been told in my area.

Well, I'm not sure if it is illegal or legal. I doubt you have to have a sticker or something (propane powered cars don't need one and they have a higher pressure tank of much more dangerous gas). It probably is not legal to use it on the street (EPA and DOT have SOOO many rules).
But what I do know is this, having a few friends that are judges. If a cop pulls you over thinking your might have been speeding or street racing, etc., and sees that you have a nitrous bottle with the bottle valve TURNED ON, he'll be"very aggressive" in writing you up and the judge will be pitiless in assessing a fine. A bottle that is "turned on" is an admission of guilt you are intening to street race.
I have been running Nitrous at the track forever and in CA a Nitrous system is considered part of the vehicle fuel system and is completely legal. Now getting caught racing with it on streets is another story but they can't arrest you for having it. They can arrest you for street racing, but the fact that you have a Nitrous bottle in the car won't be what he puts on his report at the station. The only restriction in CA is you can't have more than a 20lbs bottle on board. This can be two 10lbs bottles or one single 20lbs bottle. Go over that and your in trouble. That's the law and it's in print. Without going into all the gory details lets just say I know this because I had an ******* cop that really really wanted to arrest me and impound my car but he couldn't find grounds to actually do it on and believe me he tried by going over my car with a fine tooth comb. Thank God for all the witnesses around that would have testified on my behalf.
here in ga ive heard if its hooked up its illegal ... and they might ask if it is hooked up if they pull u over.
but at the same time itll just make the cop mad at u. whats it for looks?
jsut tell him its for track use and its empty and not hooked up...
I have my 15lb bottle in a very open spot and if I get pulled over and they ask me about it I will be honest with them. I really am not overly concerned with it, because it is more for show than use and that is the TRUTH!
From what an officer told me here in cali it is not illigal to have nitrous installed in your vehicle but it is illigal to use nitrous on streets and highways. Usually a disconnected line would get you off the hook at least it did me many a time , even just having the bottle out of reach with it shut off was ok. but with electric bottle openers and things like that im not sure on that anymore.
